Nashville portrait photography, wedding photography, trash the dress
About Me
Hi, I'm Jessica, and I want to be your family's photographer!
Photography has always been a passion of mine. Growing up, my friends could always count on me to be the one who always had her camera. That transitioned into working on the high school yearbook staff, and now to capturing and preserving your family's memories.
In addition to photography, I enjoy video games, traveling, and FOOD. Cake is my favorite food (perhaps this is one reason I love weddings so much), but don't feed me lettuce; I can't stand it! I used to be an avid cosplayer (that means I handmade costumes of my favorite video game/anime/movie characters and wore them to conventions), but now I mostly just enjoy looking at other people's handiwork.
I also adore blogging, so be sure to subscribe to keep up with my ramblings and current photos. And, if I look familiar, it's because I was (am) Ms. Fondue over at Weddingbee.
I'm based in Nashville, Tennessee, but I do love to travel, so don't hesitate to contact me if you live elsewhere. You can find me on Twitter and Facebook, or just email me!
Isaac was born just last Friday. He was a few weeks early, but born at a healthy weight of 5 pounds, 15 ounces. He was a dream to work with. He slept soundly through the first half of our session and let me prod and mold him as I wished. If you are thinking of scheduling a newborn session, this is why the first week of life is the best!
We probably could have convinced him to go back to sleep for the second half, but I was enjoying taking photos of his eyes. Plus babies make the funniest faces when they are awake!
Melissa is my roommate. She’s proof that finding housemates via craigslist CAN work! We’ve been living together since around the beginning of this year. She asked me one day recently if I could take a couple shots of her because she didn’t have any recent headshots, and I happily obliged. These were just quickly taken in our back yard. Gotta love that golden hour light.
Most of my packages come with print credits. The credit is good for any product you can get through your online gallery, or it can be applied to an album. A lot of people use them to buy basic prints to frame. However, I thought it might be a good idea to showcase some of the specialty items you can get.
I figured I would start off with a bang and show a canvas. Yes, canvases are pricey. But they are glorious. I have one hanging in my upstairs hallway (which is otherwise pretty much void of anything) of a photo I took back in February of my boyfriend and myself.
This is a 16×24 inch canvas, which isn’t huge; it’s probably about the minimum size I would recommend. You can see how it compares in size with the door in this photo I took from down on the first floor. (Ideally, I’d like to put a light on the wall right above the canvas, shining down on it. I haven’t gotten that far yet. And don’t mock my terrible paint job!)
The image is printed on canvas material and then wrapped around a wooden frame, so the very edges of it can’t be seen from a direct front view. Keep this in mind when choosing which photos to order for a canvas.
And, of course, the wonderful thing about canvas is the great texture!
PS: If you’re a past client who has ordered any products, I’d love to see how you are displaying them! Please send photos!
My 18-year-old cousin Cara passed away this morning. She battled with leukemia for most of her teenage years and was one of the strongest people I know. She will be very missed. Please keep her family in your thoughts.
Anna and Mike chose the perfect day for their wedding! After nearly an entire month of 90+ degree weather, they were blessed with a warm-but-not-hot and breezy day. They were married at the First Baptist Church in Paducah, Kentucky, with the reception held afterward at Anna’s family’s farm. It was such a gorgeous wedding! Thanks to Hannah Elaine for allowing me to shoot with her again.

I arrived home last Wednesday to a package from AT&T. Yes, it was the new iPhone 4! I never bought the 3GS, so going from 3G to 4 was quite the upgrade. After staring at the pretty (extremely clear) new screen for about an hour, I decided to play with the camera using my (somewhat) willing models: my cats!
Then I realized that really only I like to look at millions of photos of my cats. So the next day, Jonathan and I tested it out at the Adventure Science Center’s Way Late Play Date. It seemed to me that it performed better in low light conditions than the 3G’s camera did with normal light.
And…video!
I think I’m in love. Did anyone else get the new iPhone?
If you remember part one of Meagan’s senior portraits, you’ll know that we got rained out after only about half an hour. So to complete her session, I drove up to Dunbar Cave in Clarksville for the not-as-urban/more-naturey final part of the shoot. We had a lot of fun playing with light!
Thanks for letting me experiment, Meagan! (And, um, thanks for finding me when I got lost in the woods.)
July 7, 2010 - 2:23 pmJenna - I was wondering how you had such awesome light in the top left shot, then I saw that you had tagged it Dunbar Cave. You shot in a cave? Very cool!
July 7, 2010 - 3:47 pmJessica - Thanks! Jenna, yes this was at the entrance to a cave! There were some rocks to the right that came a little higher than her head, so I set a speedlite on top of them angled up with a lightsphere on it to diffuse the light. I did a similar set-up for the photo below it, except to the left and further back. This was really my first time playing with off-camera flash, so I'm glad you like them! The other three photos were all natural light.
What a great wedding! Jessica and Rich were married at Belle Meade Plantation last Friday in a very warm (95 degrees!) and beautiful ceremony. I was second shooting for the fabulous Hannah Elaine once again. Jessica and Rich’s wedding had lots of unique details, including an ice cream bar instead of wedding cake! Despite the heat, they could not have asked for a more perfect day in Nashville.
How sweet is this photo of Jessica’s grandmother helping her with her garter?
I loved the grey suits the groom and groomsmen were wearing.
The live music from Blue Tone kept their guests on the dance floor for hours. What a blast!
I think it’s so funny to see photos of myself taking photos.
Holly posted one a few days ago that her sister Shannon took during our newborn session last weekend.
And one of the resulting shots:
Oddly, I’m wearing a dress. Which isn’t strange on a normal day, since I wear dresses probably 80% of the time, but I usually wear jeans on shoots (or black pants, in the case of weddings) because I tend to end up rolling around in mud.
And here’s another reason. How embarrassing is this? Normally I would just sit on the ground to get a shot like this, but despite being in Vegas, I wanted to stay modest. It wouldn’t have been so bad if I weren’t wearing tights and, so fearing I would rip them if I got on my knees like I would normally do, decided to do some awkward squat thing. Notice how Eileen is cackling at me. Megan took this one during one of the Weddingbee trash the dress shoots.
This was kind of an impromptu shoot, so I had already picked out my outfit for the day. You’d think I would have changed shoes, though. I’m not really sure what possessed me to go on a shoot wearing HEELS. We’ll just say I was trying to challenge myself. But here’s one of the resulting shots!
Whenever I second shoot, I try to take at least one photo of the primary photographer in action, just in case they find it as amusing as I do.
